The Sony SDX-D500C tape drive allows up to 130 GB data storage
capacity (with 2.6:1 compression) in a compact, 8mm data cartridge.
Helical scan technology increases data recording density,
while offering fast data transfer rates of up to 15.6 MB/s.
Fast Access to Data With MIC
Sony's Innovative MIC (Memory-In-Cassette) technology, with
64 kbits of built-in memory, provides fast loading (less than
10 s) and quick file access (27 s) times.
Full Backward Compatibility
Sony AIT-2 drives are fully read/write compatible with both
AIT-2 tape media (36 GB and 50 GB data cartridges), and AIT-1
media (25 GB and 35 GB data cartridges). This means maximum
investment protection in the valuable data you already have
stored on AIT-1 data cartridges, while benefiting from the
increased capacity and performance of AIT-2 tape technology.
High Reliability
Sony AIT drives incorporate a redesigned head geometry, reducing
head / tape pressure and delivering up to 50,000 hours of
head life. The built-in Super Head Cleaner™ mechanism
results in an industry leading MTBF rating of 300,000 POH.
Standalone, External Drive Configuration
The compact external enclosure includes a built-in power supply
and cooling fan, making it easy to add AIT tape technology
to existing systems. An industry standard Wide Ultra SCSI
interface delivers fast data throughput.
