With support for AIT, SAIT, LTO and SDLT tape drive formats,
the complete RLS series consists of 7 models offering capacities
up to 57 terabytes (compressed). Need speed? How about the

High Availability Features
To reduce downtime, a number of high availability options
have been included in Qualstar's RLS series rackmount tape
libraries, such as:
- Hot-swappable, redundant power supplies
- True hot-swappable tape drives
- Q-Link,
Qualstar's Web-browser-based remote library manager
- Remote firmware updates
Upgradability = Investment Protection
All of Qualstar's rackmount tape libraries feature IPM (Interface
Personality Module) architecture. By simply plugging in the
appropriate IPM, the unit(s) can be reconfigured in a matter
of seconds for SCSI, Fibre Channel, iSCSI or future interface
architectures. In addition, a field capacity expansion kit
is available to economically upgrade the RLS-4445 to an RLS-4470.
Reliable, Intelligent Robotics
Unique, leadscrew-based robotics use brushless DC motors and
closed-loop servo control systems to provide precise media
positioning and flawless handling for years of dependable
operation. All FRU's (Field Replaceable Units) and tape drives
are auto-discovering, and all electrical and mechanical adjustments
have been completely eliminated by sophisticated adaptive
‘smart’ logic design.
Easy, Intuitive Operation
 All
rackmount tape libraries feature an onboard LCD panel (shown
right) that provides an intuitive, easy-to-use, menu-driven
control system for accessing installation, configuration,
and operational information. Critical operating functions
are displayed and an audible alarm signals conditions requiring
immediate action. All of the information, functions and controls
built into the front panel display are replicated in Q-Link,
the powerful, Web-browser-based remote library manager.
Advanced Cartridge Management and Security
Bar code scanning enhances throughput and controls the media
inventory. VIOP,
a unique variable I/O port design, allows users to determine
how many slots to commit to importing and exporting tapes.
Qualstar's exclusive ‘Inventory Sentry’ senses whether
the tapes or magazines have actually been removed when the
door is opened. If they haven’t, operation is resumed
without causing a time consuming re-inventory.
Logical Library and Fibre Channel
Logical Library is built into all RLS series rackmount tape
libraries. This allows up to four servers to share a single
library, even if each server is running a separate application.
Systems that you couldn’t previously afford to upgrade
can now be protected automatically.
